Yeonsangun of Joseon

Yeonsangun of Joseon, born Yi Yung on November seventh, fourteen seventy-six, was the tenth monarch of the Joseon dynasty in Korea. His reign, which lasted until November twentieth, fifteen oh six, is often remembered for its brutality and tyranny, marking a stark departure from the more liberal governance of his father.

Known infamously as one of the worst tyrants in Korean history, Yeonsangun's rule was characterized by two bloody purges that resulted in widespread fear and suffering. His reign was marked by the seizure of hundreds of women from across the peninsula, who were forced to serve as entertainers in the royal palace, reflecting his despotic nature.

Additionally, Yeonsangun appropriated the prestigious Sungkyunkwan, a renowned Confucian academy, transforming it into a personal pleasure ground. This act further exemplified his disregard for the cultural and educational values that had been upheld by his predecessors.

Despite his significant position, Yeonsangun was ultimately overthrown and did not receive a temple name, a testament to the disdain with which he was regarded by his contemporaries and the lasting impact of his tyrannical rule.
