Yevgeniy Abalakov

Yevgeniy Abalakov, born on February fourth, nineteen oh seven in Yeniseysk, was a remarkable Soviet explorer, sculptor, mountaineer, and athlete. His adventurous spirit led him to achieve significant milestones in the world of mountaineering, most notably the first ascent of Stalin Peak, which stands at seven thousand four hundred ninety-five meters. This historic climb took place on September third, nineteen thirty-three, as part of the 29th detachment of the Tajik-Pamir Sovnarkom expedition.

As the German-Soviet War unfolded, Abalakov's dedication to his country saw him enlist at the front lines, where he contributed to the war effort. His life, however, was tragically cut short when he died on March twenty-third, nineteen forty-eight, in Moscow under obscure circumstances while preparing for an ascent to Victory Peak.

Abalakov's legacy is further enriched by his brother, Vitaly Abalakov, a renowned mountaineer in his own right, who made significant contributions to climbing equipment innovations, including the invention of the Abalakov thread, also known as the V-thread. Yevgeniy Abalakov was laid to rest at the Novodevichy Cemetery in Moscow, a testament to his enduring impact on the mountaineering community.
