Yevgeniya Polyakova, born on May 29, 1983, in Moscow, is a distinguished Russian sprinter renowned for her prowess in the 100 metres event. Her athletic journey reached a significant milestone when she represented Russia at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, showcasing her talent on the world stage.
During the Olympic Games, Polyakova made a remarkable impression in the first round of the 100 metres sprint, finishing first in her heat with a time of eleven point two four seconds, ahead of notable competitors Jade Bailey and Sherone Simpson. She continued to excel in the second round, improving her time to eleven point one three seconds, which secured her a place in the semi-finals.
Despite her strong performance, Polyakova faced elimination in the semi-finals, clocking in at eleven point three eight seconds, which was not sufficient to qualify for the final. However, her contributions to the Russian team extended beyond individual events. She participated in the 4 × 100 metres relay alongside teammates Aleksandra Fedoriva, Yulia Gushchina, and Yuliya Chermoshanskaya.
The relay team delivered an impressive performance, finishing second in their heat with a time of forty-two point eight seven seconds, which was the second-best overall time among sixteen nations. This achievement propelled them into the final, where they clinched the gold medal with a remarkable time of forty-two point three one seconds, as the Jamaican team faced a mishap during the baton exchange.
In August 2016, however, Polyakova and her teammates faced a significant setback when they were stripped of their Olympic gold medal due to a doping violation involving Chermoshanskaya. This incident marked a controversial chapter in her athletic career.
