Yitang Zhang, born in nineteen fifty-five, is a distinguished Chinese-American mathematician renowned for his contributions to number theory. Currently, he serves as a professor of mathematics at Sun Yat-sen University, where he continues to inspire the next generation of mathematicians.

Before his tenure at Sun Yat-sen University, Zhang was a lecturer at the University of New Hampshire. His groundbreaking work in two thousand thirteen, which established the first finite bound on the least gap between consecutive prime numbers that occurs infinitely often, marked a significant milestone in the field of mathematics.

This remarkable achievement earned him several prestigious accolades, including the Ostrowski Prize in two thousand thirteen, the Cole Prize in two thousand fourteen, the Rolf Schock Prize in two thousand fourteen, and a MacArthur Fellowship in two thousand fourteen. In the fall of two thousand fifteen, Zhang joined the University of California, Santa Barbara as a professor of mathematics.
