Yoko Shimomura

Yoko Shimomura, born on October nineteenth, nineteen sixty-seven, is a renowned Japanese composer and pianist celebrated for her exceptional contributions to the world of video game music. After graduating from the Osaka College of Music in nineteen eighty-eight, she embarked on her professional journey at Capcom, where she quickly made a name for herself by composing iconic scores for games such as Final Fight, Street Fighter II, and The King of Dragons.

In nineteen ninety-three, Shimomura transitioned to Square, now known as Square Enix, where she began her illustrious work on Live A Live. Her talent flourished as she composed memorable soundtracks for beloved titles including Super Mario RPG, Legend of Mana, and Parasite Eve. Her work in the industry has not gone unnoticed, as she was honored with the BAFTA Fellowship award in twenty twenty-five.

Perhaps most famously, Shimomura is recognized for her work on the Kingdom Hearts series, which solidified her status as a leading figure in video game music. In two thousand two, she took the bold step of becoming a freelancer, while still collaborating with Square on projects like The 3rd Birthday and Final Fantasy XV. Her impressive portfolio also includes contributions to the Mario & Luigi series, Radiant Historia, and Xenoblade Chronicles.
