Yolanda Saldívar, born on September 14, 1960, is an American former nurse whose life took a tragic turn when she became embroiled in the murder of beloved singer Selena Quintanilla. On March 31, 1995, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Saldívar's actions led to the untimely death of the rising star, a shocking event that reverberated throughout the music industry and beyond.
Prior to this devastating incident, Saldívar held prominent roles as the president of Selena's fan club and the manager of her boutiques. However, her downfall began when Selena's family uncovered that Saldívar had been embezzling money from both organizations, leading to her dismissal from these positions shortly before the murder.
In October 1995, Saldívar was convicted of murder and subsequently sentenced to a prison term ranging from thirty years to life. As of 2025, she became eligible for parole, but her initial petition was denied on March 27, 2025. The next opportunity for parole review is scheduled for March 2030, leaving her future uncertain.
