Youssou N'Dour

Youssou N'Dour, born on October 1, 1959, is a multifaceted Senegalese artist renowned for his contributions as a singer, songwriter, musician, and politician. He is celebrated for pioneering the mbalax genre, a vibrant style of popular Senegambian music that draws from the sacred traditions of Serer music, particularly the njuup and ndut ceremonies.
