Yunus-bek Yevkurov, born on July thirtieth, nineteen sixty-three, is a distinguished Russian army general and politician. He served as the head of the southern Russian republic of Ingushetia for over a decade, having been appointed by President Dmitry Medvedev on October thirtieth, two thousand eight. The following day, the People's Assembly of the Republic of Ingushetia confirmed his appointment, marking him as the third Head of Ingushetia.
A career soldier and paratrooper, Yevkurov is recognized as a Hero of the Russian Federation, having participated in significant conflicts such as Kosovo in nineteen ninety-nine and the Chechen wars. His tenure as head of Ingushetia was marked by a commitment to stabilizing the crime situation and fostering positive social changes within the republic.
However, his leadership faced challenges, particularly from September two thousand eighteen onward, due to a controversial land transfer deal with the neighboring Republic of Chechnya. This opposition culminated in the announcement of his departure from the role on June twenty-fourth, two thousand nineteen.
Following his time in Ingushetia, Yevkurov was appointed as a Deputy Defence Minister by President Putin on July eighth, two thousand nineteen, continuing his service to the Russian state.
