Yuri Mikhailovich Baturin, born on June twelfth, nineteen forty-nine, in Moscow, is a distinguished Russian cosmonaut and former politician. With a career spanning various fields, he has served as an astronaut, diplomat, university teacher, journalist, and research cosmonaut. Baturin holds the federal state civilian service rank of 1st class Active State Councillor of the Russian Federation.
Graduating from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in nineteen seventy-three, Baturin's expertise led him to significant roles, including Assistant to the President on National Security and Secretary of the Defense Council from nineteen ninety-six to nineteen ninety-eight. He is also recognized as an author in constitutional law, contributing to the legal landscape of Russia.
As a cosmonaut, Baturin participated in two notable space missions. His first flight, often referred to as Mir EP-4, launched aboard Soyuz TM-28 on August thirteenth, nineteen ninety-eight, and lasted for eleven days, nineteen hours, and thirty-nine minutes. His second mission, ISS EP-1, took place on April twenty-eighth, two thousand one, aboard Soyuz TM-32, where he served as Flight Engineer. This mission was particularly significant as it included the first paying space tourist, Dennis Tito, and lasted for seven days, twenty-two hours, and four minutes.
In his personal life, Baturin is married to Svetlana Veniaminovna Polubinskaya, and together they have a daughter, further enriching his life beyond his professional achievements.
