Yuri Shymko, born on September sixth, nineteen forty, is a distinguished former politician and educator from Ontario, Canada. His political career began as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party, where he represented the downtown Toronto riding of Parkdale in the House of Commons of Canada from nineteen seventy-eight to nineteen seventy-nine.
Following his tenure in federal politics, Shymko transitioned to provincial politics, serving in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from nineteen eighty-one to nineteen eighty-seven. During this time, he represented the riding of High Park-Swansea, contributing significantly to the political landscape of the region.
In addition to his political endeavors, Shymko has been an active advocate for Ukrainian causes. From two thousand thirteen to two thousand seventeen, he held the position of President of the International Council in Support of Ukraine (ICSU), an organization that coordinates the efforts of Ukrainian NGOs across North America, Europe, South America, and Australia.
His dedication to Ukrainian heritage and support was recognized in two thousand eight when he received the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, one of Ukraine's highest state honors, awarded by President Viktor Yushchenko during a public ceremony in Kyiv.
