Yuri Skobov

Yuri Skobov, born on March 13, 1949, was a distinguished cross-country skier who represented the Soviet Union and later Russia during the early 1970s. His training at Spartak in Omutninsk laid the foundation for a remarkable athletic career that would see him achieve significant accolades on the international stage.

Skobov's most notable achievement came at the 1972 Winter Olympics held in Sapporo, where he clinched the gold medal in the 4 × 10 km relay, contributing to the USSR's dominance in the sport. In addition to his Olympic success, he showcased his talent by finishing fifth in the 15 km event at the same games, further solidifying his reputation as a top-tier skier.
