Zack Greinke

Zack Greinke, born on October 21, 1983, is a distinguished American former professional baseball pitcher, renowned for his exceptional skills and unique demeanor on the mound. Over the course of two decades, he showcased his talent in Major League Baseball (MLB) with teams including the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Houston Astros. Greinke is widely regarded as one of the greatest pitchers of his generation.

Selected by the Royals as the sixth overall pick in the first round of the 2002 MLB draft, Greinke's journey began after he earned the Gatorade National Player of the Year Award in high school. He made his MLB debut in 2004, but his early career faced significant challenges due to battles with depression and anxiety, which sidelined him for most of the 2006 season. However, he made a remarkable comeback in 2007, initially as a relief pitcher, before reestablishing himself as a starter in 2008.

Greinke's career took off in 2009 when he earned a spot in the MLB All-Star Game, led the league in earned run average (ERA), and was honored with the American League Cy Young Award. His tenure with the Royals was followed by successful stints with several teams from 2011 to 2021, during which he garnered six consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 2014 to 2019 and led MLB in ERA for a second time in 2015 while with the Dodgers. In 2022, he made a triumphant return to the Royals.

A dedicated competitor, Greinke's accolades include being a six-time All-Star, a six-time Gold Glove Award winner, and a two-time Silver Slugger Award recipient. He is also one of only five pitchers in history to strike out one thousand different batters, achieving this milestone against Joey Wiemer on May 14, 2023.
