Zafarullah Khan Jamali

Zafarullah Khan Jamali, born on January first, nineteen forty-four, was a prominent Pakistani politician who made history as the thirteenth prime minister of Pakistan, serving from two thousand two to two thousand four. He holds the distinction of being the first and only elected prime minister from Balochistan, a province known for its rich cultural heritage and political significance.

Emerging from the Jamali family, Zafarullah began his political journey as a supporter of the Pakistan People's Party during the tumultuous political landscape of the nineteen seventies. His rise in politics was facilitated under the military governance of Rahimuddin Khan, and he later became a national figure through his association with Nawaz Sharif's government. Jamali served as the Chief Minister of Balochistan for two non-consecutive terms, first from June to December nineteen eighty-eight and then from November nineteen ninety-six to February nineteen ninety-seven.

Despite being a senior leader in the Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and a close confidant of Nawaz Sharif, Jamali's political affiliations shifted after the military coup led by General Pervez Musharraf in nineteen ninety-nine. He joined the Pakistan Muslim League (Q) and, in the general elections of two thousand two, he successfully garnered support across party lines, leading to his appointment as prime minister-designate on November twenty-first, two thousand two.

Sworn in on November twenty-third, two thousand two, Jamali's tenure as prime minister was marked by unexpected challenges, culminating in his resignation in two thousand four. His time in office was notably brief, making him the fifth shortest-serving democratically elected prime minister in Pakistan's history.
