Zaheer Khan

Zaheer Khan, born on October seventh, nineteen seventy-eight, is a distinguished former Indian cricketer who represented the national team across all formats from two thousand until two thousand fourteen. Renowned for his left-arm fast-medium bowling, he possessed a remarkable ability to move the ball both ways off the wicket and was particularly effective with reverse swing, especially with the old ball. His prowess on the field has made him the second-most successful Indian pace bowler in Test cricket, sharing this honor with Ishant Sharma, and trailing only behind the legendary Kapil Dev.

Throughout his illustrious career, Khan achieved the remarkable feat of dismissing some of the most formidable left-handed batsmen in cricket history, including Graeme Smith, Kumar Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya, and Matthew Hayden, over ten times each. He also holds the impressive record for dismissing the third-most left-handed batsmen in international cricket, with a total of two hundred thirty-seven dismissals, following Muttiah Muralitharan and Shaun Pollock.

Khan began his domestic career with Baroda and was a vital member of the Indian team that emerged as joint-winners of the two thousand two ICC Champions Trophy. He played a crucial role in the two thousand eleven World Cup victory, leading the pace attack with twenty-one wickets in just nine matches. His contributions to Indian cricket were recognized when he received the Arjuna Award, India's second-highest sporting honor, in two thousand eleven.

Despite facing recurring injuries that hindered his international progress, Khan established ProSport Fitness & Services, a specialized rehabilitation and training center, in collaboration with Adrian Le Roux and Andrew Leipus. His exceptional talent was acknowledged when he was named one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in two thousand eight. After announcing his retirement from international cricket in October two thousand fifteen, he continued to make an impact in the sport by playing for Worcestershire in County Cricket and participating in the Indian Premier League with teams such as Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Daredevils, and Mumbai Indians.

In recognition of his contributions to Indian sports, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Shri in two thousand twenty. Recently, he served as the mentor for the IPL team Lucknow Super Giants during the two thousand twenty-five edition, further solidifying his legacy in the world of cricket.
