Zainab Salbi

Zainab Salbi, born on September twenty-fourth, nineteen sixty-nine, is a prominent Iraqi American women's rights activist, writer, and television presenter. She is renowned for her commitment to advocating for women's rights and her efforts to address issues affecting women globally. As the co-founder of Daughters for Earth, she leads a movement focused on climate solutions aimed at protecting and restoring Mother Earth.

In addition to her environmental work, Salbi is also the co-founder of Women for Women International, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting women who have been impacted by sexual violence and conflict. Her television career includes hosting shows such as Through Her Eyes and #MeToo, Now What?, where she discusses critical issues facing women today. Since two thousand twenty-two, she has been the host of the Redefined podcast, further amplifying women's voices.

Salbi's memoir, Between Two Worlds: Escape from Tyranny: Growing Up in the Shadow of Saddam, published in two thousand five, offers a poignant account of her early life in Baghdad. Born to a father who became Saddam Hussein's personal pilot, her family arranged her marriage and emigration to the United States to protect her from Hussein's unwanted attention. After enduring an abusive marriage, she divorced and embarked on a humanitarian career, dedicating her life to helping others.

She is also the author of The Other Side of War: Women's Stories of Survival & Hope, which shares the powerful stories of women who have survived the ravages of war. In September two thousand twenty-three, Zainab Salbi was honored with the Time100 Impact Award, recognizing her significant contributions to women's rights and humanitarian efforts.
