Zarifa Ghafari

Zarifa Ghafari, born on January first, nineteen ninety-two, is a prominent Afghan activist and politician, renowned for her groundbreaking role as the former mayor of Maidan Shahr, the capital of Wardak Province. Appointed at the young age of twenty-four, she stands out as one of the few female mayors in Afghanistan's history, alongside notable figures such as Azra Jafari and Khadija Zahra Ahmadi.

Throughout her tenure, Ghafari has been a fierce advocate for women's rights, tirelessly working to improve the status and opportunities for women in Afghanistan. Her dedication to this cause has not gone unnoticed; in two thousand twenty, she was honored as an International Woman of Courage by the US Secretary of State, recognizing her bravery and commitment to social change.
