Zaza Gogava, born on July fourteenth, nineteen seventy-one, is a distinguished Major General in the Georgian military. His career began with compulsory service in the Soviet Army's motorized rifle units from nineteen eighty-nine to nineteen ninety, where he was among the first Georgian conscripts to defect. Following his graduation from Tbilisi State Technical University in nineteen ninety-four, Gogava embarked on a notable journey within Georgia's security services.
In nineteen ninety-five, he joined the special task group 'Omega' and quickly made a name for himself in various counter-terrorist units and special forces subdivisions. His training in the United States from nineteen ninety-five to two thousand two further honed his skills, leading to his appointment as the commander of the Counter-terrorism Division of the Special Operations Center in two thousand three.
By two thousand four, Gogava had risen to command the élite Police Special Tasks Division named after General G. Gulua and was appointed Commander of the Georgian Special Operations Forces within the Ministry of Defense. His leadership capabilities were recognized when he became the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces in two thousand six, and later, the Chief of Joint Staff, a position he held until two thousand eight.
In November two thousand eight, Gogava transitioned to the role of Chief of Border Police, succeeding Badri Bitsadze.
