Zhang Youxia, born on July first, nineteen fifty, in Beijing, is a prominent Chinese general in the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and currently serves as the first-ranked vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC). He is the son of General Zhang Zongxun, which highlights a legacy of military service in his family.

His military career began in nineteen sixty-eight when he joined the army. Zhang distinguished himself during the Sino-Vietnamese War of nineteen seventy-nine and the Battle of Laoshan in nineteen eighty-four, making him one of the few serving generals in China with actual combat experience.

In two thousand, he was appointed commander of the 13th Group Army, and by two thousand five, he became the vice commander of the Beijing Military Region. His rise continued as he took command of the Shenyang Military Region in two thousand seven and became a member of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.

In two thousand eleven, Zhang was promoted to General, and the following year, he was appointed head of the PLA General Armaments Department. His leadership capabilities were further recognized in two thousand sixteen when he became the head of the CMC Equipment Development Department. By two thousand seventeen, he was a member of the CCP Politburo and had ascended to the position of second-ranked CMC vice chairman, eventually becoming the first-ranked CMC vice chairman in two thousand twenty-two.

However, in January two thousand twenty-six, Zhang was detained, marking him as one of the highest-ranking military officers to fall from power since the Lin Biao incident in nineteen seventy-one, a significant event in Chinese military history.
