Zhao Yun

Zhao Yun, courtesy name Zilong, was a prominent military general during the late Eastern Han dynasty and the early Three Kingdoms period of China. His career began under the command of the northern warlord Gongsun Zan, where he honed his skills as a formidable leader. However, it was his service under Liu Bei that truly defined his legacy, as he accompanied the warlord on numerous military campaigns.

Among the notable battles Zhao Yun participated in were the Battle of Changban in the year two hundred eight and the Hanzhong Campaign from two hundred seventeen to two hundred nineteen. His unwavering loyalty and strategic prowess earned him a revered place in the annals of Chinese history, particularly as a key figure in the establishment of the Shu Han state, founded by Liu Bei in two hundred twenty-one.

Throughout the Three Kingdoms period, Zhao Yun continued to serve the state of Shu Han and took part in the first of the Northern Expeditions until his death in the year two hundred twenty-nine. Despite the scarcity of detailed historical records about his life, Zhao Yun's exploits have been celebrated and sometimes embellished in folklore and literature.

In the renowned fourteenth-century historical novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, he is depicted as one of the Five Tiger Generals under Liu Bei, further solidifying his status as a legendary figure in Chinese military history.
