Zhong Hui

Zhong Hui, born in the year two hundred twenty-five, was a prominent figure during the Three Kingdoms period of China. Known for his intelligence and insight from a young age, he was the younger son of Zhang Changpu and Zhong Yao, who held the esteemed position of Grand Tutor in the Wei imperial court. His early life was marked by a keen intellect that would later serve him well in his political and military endeavors.

In the 250s, Zhong Hui rose to prominence as a close aide to Sima Zhao, the regent and de facto ruler of the state of Cao Wei. His strategic mind was instrumental during Zhuge Dan's Rebellion in Shouchun from the years two hundred fifty-seven to two hundred fifty-eight, where he earned the respect of Sima Zhao and became a key figure in the Wei government.

By the year two hundred sixty-three, Zhong Hui was tasked with leading an army to conquer the rival state of Shu Han, alongside Deng Ai and Zhuge Xu. During this campaign, he cunningly framed his fellow commanders for cowardice and treason, ultimately seizing control of their troops. By the time Shu surrendered, Zhong Hui had established himself as the dominant military leader in the region.

However, his ambition led to his downfall. In the year two hundred sixty-four, with the support of Jiang Wei, a former Shu general, Zhong Hui initiated a rebellion against Sima Zhao. Unfortunately, his plans were betrayed, leading to a mutiny among the officers he sought to purge. This resulted in his death, along with that of Jiang Wei, marking a tragic end to his tumultuous career.
