Ziad Jarrah

Ziad Samir Jarrah, born on May eleventh, nineteen seventy-five, in Beirut, Lebanon, emerged from a wealthy and secular family during the tumultuous period of the Lebanese Civil War. His early life was marked by privilege, which contrasted sharply with the chaos surrounding him. In nineteen ninety-six, seeking to further his education, Jarrah relocated to Germany, where he enrolled in the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences to study aerospace engineering.

While in Hamburg, Jarrah became involved with a clandestine group known as the Hamburg cell, which included fellow hijackers Mohamed Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi. This network played a pivotal role in the planning of the September eleventh attacks. In nineteen ninety-nine, the group traveled to Afghanistan to meet with al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, where they received instructions and flight training.

In the year two thousand, Jarrah took a significant step by enrolling in a flight school in Florida, honing the skills that would later be used in the tragic events of September eleventh, two thousand one. On that fateful day, he boarded United Airlines Flight ninety-three at Newark International Airport, alongside accomplices Ahmed al-Haznawi, Ahmed al-Nami, and Saeed al-Ghamdi.

During the flight, Jarrah and his co-conspirators seized control of the cockpit, resulting in the injury or death of the pilots. Jarrah then attempted to navigate the aircraft towards Washington, D.C., with intentions to crash into a national landmark, likely the U.S. Capitol or the White House. However, the courageous actions of the passengers led to a struggle for control, ultimately resulting in the plane crashing in a field near Stonycreek Township, Pennsylvania, killing all remaining onboard.
