Zuleykha Seyidmammadova

Zuleykha Seyidmammadova, born on March twenty-second, nineteen nineteen, was a pioneering figure in Azerbaijani aviation and politics. She made history as one of the first female pilots in Azerbaijan and the first woman from the country to engage in combat flying. Her journey in aviation began in nineteen thirty-five when she earned her pilot's license at a local flying club, later honing her skills at the prestigious aviation academy in Zhukovsky, near Moscow.

In nineteen thirty-eight, Seyidmammadova qualified as a petrochemical engineer, yet her passion for aviation led her to dedicate her career to flying. During World War II, she served as the regimental navigator for the 586th Fighter Aviation Regiment, one of the three women's military aviation regiments established by the renowned Marina Raskova. Throughout the conflict, she participated in over forty aerial battles and completed more than five hundred missions, showcasing her bravery and skill in the skies.

Beyond her combat contributions, Seyidmammadova played a vital role in maintaining morale among her fellow pilots, regularly communicating their sentiments to the regiment's leadership, including the commissar and her commanding officer, Tamara Kazarinova. After the war, she transitioned to a political career, becoming the Minister of Social Security for the Azerbaijan SSR in nineteen fifty-two.

Zuleykha Seyidmammadova's legacy is marked by her groundbreaking achievements in aviation and her commitment to public service. She passed away in Baku in nineteen ninety-four, leaving behind a remarkable story of courage and determination.
