Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Arthur Guinness

Arthur Guinness, born in 1725 in Clonoughlis, Celbridge, County Kildare, was a pioneering Irish brewer and philanthropist. He began his career in the brewing industry after working at his stepmother's public house, following a legacy of financial support from Arthur Price, a bishop of the Church of Ireland, who bequeathed funds to both Arthur and his father upon his death in 1752.

In 1759, during a period of economic downturn that made property more accessible, Guinness seized the opportunity to purchase an abandoned brewery from the Rainsford family at St. James's Gate in Dublin. Initially an ale brewery, it was under his guidance that the production of porter began in 1778, leading to the eventual cessation of ale production by 1799 as his darker beer gained immense popularity.

Beyond his brewing endeavors, Guinness was deeply engaged in social and political issues of his time. A devout Protestant, he established the first Sunday school in Dublin in 1786 and advocated for his peers to exemplify strong moral values. While he supported Catholic rights in Ireland, he opposed the Irish Rebellion of 1798. His influence extended to the Dublin Corporation of Brewers, where he played a key role in lobbying the Irish House of Commons to reform the tax code related to beer imports.

Arthur Guinness's legacy continued through his family, as he and his wife raised ten children together. Upon his passing in 1803, his son Arthur Guinness II inherited the brewery, ensuring the continuation of his father's remarkable contributions to brewing and philanthropy.
