Benjamin Thompson

Colonel Sir Benjamin Thompson, known as Count Rumford, was a remarkable figure in the realms of science and military. Born on March twenty-six, seventeen fifty-three, in Woburn, Massachusetts, he became a prominent Loyalist during the American War of Independence, where he commanded the King's American Dragoons. His military service during this tumultuous period laid the groundwork for a life dedicated to both governance and innovation.

After the conclusion of the war in seventeen eighty-three, Thompson relocated to London. His exceptional administrative skills did not go unnoticed, leading to his knighthood by King George III in seventeen eighty-four. This recognition marked the beginning of a prolific career that would see him contribute significantly to various fields, including physics and engineering.

Thompson's inventive spirit led him to design several new warship models, showcasing his dual passion for science and military strategy. His journey continued as he moved to the Electorate of Bavaria, where he took on a pivotal role in reorganizing the Bavarian Army. His contributions were so impactful that he was honored with the title of Imperial Count in seventeen ninety-two.
