Carloman of Bavaria

Carloman of Bavaria, born in the year eight hundred thirty, was a prominent figure in the Carolingian dynasty, known for his role as a Frankish king. He was the firstborn son of Louis the German, the king of East Francia, and Hemma, who was the daughter of a Bavarian count. His lineage positioned him as a significant player in the politics of the time.

In the year eight hundred fifty-six, Carloman was appointed as the governor of Carantania, showcasing his early leadership capabilities. By eight hundred sixty-four, he took on the role of commander of the southeastern frontier marches, further solidifying his military and administrative prowess.

Upon the death of his father in eight hundred seventy-six, Carloman ascended to the throne as the king of Bavaria. His reign was marked by political intrigue, as he was designated by King Louis II of Italy as his successor. However, the Kingdom of Italy was seized by his uncle, Charles the Bald, in eight hundred seventy-five, and it wasn't until eight hundred seventy-seven that Carloman successfully reclaimed it.

Unfortunately, in eight hundred seventy-nine, Carloman faced a significant health crisis, possibly a stroke, which led him to abdicate his territories. He divided his domains among his younger brothers, granting Bavaria to Louis the Younger and Italy to Charles the Fat, thus ensuring the continuation of his family's influence in the region.
