Emperor Go-Fukakusa

Emperor Go-Fukakusa, born on June twenty-eighth, twelve forty-three, was the eighty-ninth emperor of Japan, according to the traditional order of succession. His reign, which lasted from twelve forty-six to twelve sixty, marked a significant period in the thirteenth century.

This sovereign was named in honor of the ninth-century Emperor Ninmyō. The prefix 'go-' (後) translates to 'later', which allows him to be referred to as the 'Later Emperor Fukakusa'. This nomenclature reflects the historical lineage and the continuity of the imperial line.

In some older historical texts, he may also be identified as 'Fukakusa, the second' or 'Fukakusa II', indicating his place within the broader context of Japan's imperial history.
