Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Empress Michiko

Empress Michiko, born on October twentieth, nineteen thirty-four, is a distinguished member of the Imperial House of Japan and has held the title of Empress Emerita since May first, two thousand nineteen. She was the Empress of Japan as the beloved wife of Akihito, the one hundred twenty-fifth Emperor of Japan, reigning from January seventh, nineteen eighty-nine, until April thirtieth, two thousand nineteen.

In nineteen fifty-nine, Michiko made history by marrying Crown Prince Akihito, becoming the first commoner to join the Japanese imperial family. Together, they raised three children: Naruhito, Fumihito, and Sayako. Her elder son, Naruhito, currently serves as the Emperor of Japan.

Throughout her time as Crown Princess and later as Empress Consort, Michiko became renowned for her extensive travels and public engagements, establishing herself as the most visible imperial consort in Japanese history. Her dedication to her role and her family has left a lasting impact on the Japanese imperial tradition.

Following Akihito's abdication, Michiko was honored with the title of Jōkōgō, or Empress Emerita, marking a new chapter in her life dedicated to cultural and literary pursuits, including her work as a poet and children's writer.
