Francis Hopkinson

Francis Hopkinson, born on September twenty-first, seventeen thirty-seven, was a multifaceted American Founding Father whose contributions spanned various fields including law, music, and politics. As a delegate from New Jersey, he played a pivotal role in the signing of the Declaration of Independence in July seventeen seventy-six, marking his commitment to the cause of American liberty.

In addition to his political endeavors, Hopkinson was a talented composer and writer. His artistic skills extended to the design of Continental paper money and two early versions of flags, one representing the United States and the other for the United States Navy. These designs showcased his creativity and dedication to the nascent nation.

Hopkinson's influence continued as he served in significant roles within the early United States government. He was a member of the Second Continental Congress and contributed to the Navy Board, helping to shape the military framework of the new country. His legal acumen was recognized when he became the first federal judge of the Eastern District Court of Pennsylvania on September thirtieth, seventeen eighty-nine.
