García Jiménez of Pamplona

García Jiménez of Pamplona, born in the year eight hundred thirty-five, emerged as a significant figure in the late ninth century, serving as a regent, knight, warrior, politician, and aristocrat. He is recognized as a king of a distinct part of Pamplona, a territory that would later be integral to the Kingdom of Navarre. García is believed to have succeeded his father, a supposed Jimeno, during the reign of either King García Íñiguez or his son, King Fortún Garcés.

Despite the lack of documentary evidence detailing his governance over the greater kingdom, García Jiménez was often referred to as 'king' in historical texts, including the Códice de Roda. His tenure as regent is thought to have occurred during a tumultuous period when Fortún Garcés was imprisoned in Córdoba for twenty years. This interregnum, lasting until García's death in battle against the Emir of Córdoba in the year eight hundred eighty-two, has led some historians to refer to him as García II.

García Jiménez's marital life was marked by two significant unions. His first marriage was to Oneca, known as the 'Rebel of Sangüesa,' with whom he had two children: Íñigo, who was recognized as 'king' in the Códice de Roda, and Sancha, who married Íñigo Fortúnez and later Galindo Aznárez II, Count of Aragon. His second marriage was to Dadildis of Pallars, sister of Count Raymond I of Pallars and Ribagorza, with whom he fathered two sons: Sancho I, who would later become the sole king of Pamplona, and Jimeno, who served as regent until his death in the year nine hundred thirty-one.
