LaMelo Ball

LaMelo Ball, born on August 22, 2001, is an American professional basketball player currently making waves with the Charlotte Hornets in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Selected as the third overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft, Ball quickly established himself as a formidable talent, earning the title of NBA Rookie of the Year in 2021 and securing an All-Star spot in 2022.

His basketball journey began at Chino Hills High School in California, where he not only won a state championship but also gained national recognition as a freshman. However, a coaching dispute led him to leave Chino Hills and join the Lithuanian professional team Prienai before his junior season. In 2018, he played in the Junior Basketball Association (JBA), a league founded by his father, LaVar Ball, before finishing his high school career at SPIRE Academy in Ohio.

Despite being a five-star recruit committed to UCLA, LaMelo opted to forgo college basketball due to eligibility concerns, instead choosing to play for the Illawarra Hawks in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) in 2019. His impressive performance there transformed his draft prospects, shifting him from a potential second-round pick to a top-three selection.

LaMelo's rise to fame has been accompanied by the spotlight on his family, including his brothers, Lonzo and LiAngelo, who have also made their marks in sports and entertainment. LaMelo has a signature shoe from his father's Big Baller Brand and appears on the family's reality show, Ball in the Family. In mid-to-late 2025, he gained further popularity through viral video edits on TikTok, showcasing his highlights set to the song 'Doot Doot (6 7)' by Skrilla, celebrating his height of six feet seven inches.
