Manuel III of Trebizond

Manuel III of Trebizond, born on December sixteenth, 1364, ascended to the throne as Emperor of Trebizond on March twentieth, 1390. His reign, which lasted until his death in 1417, was marked by significant historical events that shaped the region.

One of the most pivotal moments during Manuel's rule was the incursion of the formidable Central Asian conqueror Tamerlane into Anatolia. This invasion led to the catastrophic defeat of the Ottoman Empire at the Battle of Ankara, a turning point that not only threatened Manuel's domain but also altered the power dynamics in the region.
