Princess Märtha of Sweden

Princess Märtha of Sweden, born on March twenty-eighth, nineteen oh one, was a prominent aristocrat who served as Crown Princess of Norway from nineteen twenty-nine until her passing in nineteen fifty-four. Although her husband, Olav V, ascended to the throne in nineteen fifty-seven, Märtha never held the title of Queen of Norway. She was the elder sister of Queen Astrid of Belgium and the maternal aunt of Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte of Luxembourg, as well as Kings Baudouin and Albert II of Belgium.

During the tumultuous years of World War II, Crown Princess Märtha and her family found themselves deeply affected by the German invasion of Norway in nineteen forty. After fleeing to her native Sweden, she was evacuated to the United States with the assistance of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Throughout the war, she became a fervent advocate for Norway, engaging in fundraising efforts to support her homeland until the conflict's conclusion.

In recognition of her contributions, in nineteen forty-two, King Haakon VII of Norway, Märtha's father-in-law, honored her with the title of Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Saint Olav. Her legacy continues through her son, Harald V, who is the current king of Norway, ensuring that her impact on the Norwegian royal family endures.
