Shehbaz Sharif

Shehbaz Sharif, born on September 23, 1951, is a prominent Pakistani politician and businessman who has made significant contributions to the political landscape of Pakistan. He has held the esteemed position of Prime Minister since 2024, having previously served in the same role from 2022 to 2023. As a member of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), he has also been the chief minister of Punjab on three separate occasions, totaling over twelve years in office, making him the longest-serving individual in that capacity.

A member of a well-known political family, Sharif began his political journey by being elected to the Punjab Assembly in 1988, followed by his election to the National Assembly of Pakistan in 1990. His political career saw him re-elected to the Punjab Assembly in 1993, where he was appointed as the leader of the opposition. His first term as chief minister commenced on February 20, 1997, but was interrupted by the 1999 coup d'état, which forced him and his family into self-exile in Saudi Arabia until their return to Pakistan in 2007.

Upon his return, Sharif was re-elected as chief minister after the PML(N) won the Punjab elections in 2008. He continued to build on his political legacy by winning a third term in the 2013 provincial elections, serving until his party's defeat in 2018. Following the disqualification of his brother, Nawaz Sharif, due to the Panama Papers case, Shehbaz was appointed president of the PML(N) and later became the leader of the opposition after the 2018 general elections.

In 2022, he ascended to the role of Prime Minister after a successful no-confidence motion against Imran Khan. Following the PML(N)'s minority win in the 2024 general elections, he once again took the helm of the government, leading a coalition administration.
