Wenceslaus III of Bohemia

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Wenceslaus III of Bohemia

Wenceslaus III of Bohemia, born on October sixth, one thousand two hundred eighty-nine, was a significant monarch in Central Europe. He was the son of Wenceslaus II, King of Bohemia, and Judith of Habsburg. His early life was marked by a betrothal to Elizabeth, the only daughter of Andrew III of Hungary, which set the stage for his future political endeavors.

In early one thousand three hundred one, following the death of Andrew III, Wenceslaus was elected as King of Hungary by most Hungarian lords and prelates, despite opposition from Pope Boniface VIII, who favored Charles Robert of the House of Anjou. Wenceslaus was crowned on August twenty-seventh, one thousand three hundred one, although his reign was largely nominal due to the influence of powerful lords within the kingdom.

Recognizing the precariousness of his position in Hungary, Wenceslaus's father brought him back to Bohemia in August one thousand three hundred four. Upon his father's death, Wenceslaus ascended to the thrones of Bohemia and Poland on June twenty-first, one thousand three hundred five. He later relinquished his claim to Hungary in favor of Otto III, Duke of Bavaria, on October ninth.

Wenceslaus's rule in Bohemia was characterized by his tendency to grant large parcels of royal domains to his young friends. However, his reign faced challenges, particularly from Władysław the Elbow-high, a local claimant to the Polish throne, who captured Kraków in early one thousand three hundred six. Tragically, Wenceslaus was murdered before he could launch a campaign against his rival, marking the end of the male Přemyslid line in Bohemia.
