Adalgis

Adalgis, born in the year seven hundred forty, was a prominent figure in the political landscape of the Lombards. He served as an associate king alongside his father, Desiderius, starting in August of seven hundred fifty-nine. Their reign, however, came to an abrupt end in June of seven hundred seventy-four when they were deposed.

Despite the challenges he faced during his rule, Adalgis has left a lasting legacy, particularly through the lens of literature. He is immortalized as the hero of Alessandro Manzoni's play, 'Adelchi,' which premiered in eighteen hundred twenty-two. This work not only highlights his character but also reflects the tumultuous times in which he lived.

Adalgis's story is one of ambition, struggle, and the complexities of leadership in a time of great change. His association with the Lombard kingdom and his eventual downfall serve as a poignant reminder of the fragility of power.
