Airto Moreira

Airto Moreira, born on August fifth, nineteen forty-one, is a distinguished Brazilian jazz drummer, composer, and percussionist. His musical journey began in Brazil, where he gained recognition as a member of the influential ensemble Quarteto Novo during the late 1960s.

In pursuit of broader horizons, Airto relocated to the United States, where he became a pivotal figure in the jazz fusion movement. His collaborations with legendary artists such as Miles Davis, Return to Forever, Weather Report, and Santana have solidified his reputation as a master of rhythm and innovation.

Beyond his professional achievements, Airto shares a deep personal connection with the jazz world through his marriage to renowned jazz singer Flora Purim. Together, they have nurtured a musical legacy, with their daughter, Diana Moreira, also following in their footsteps as a talented singer.
