Ashot I of Armenia, born in the year eight hundred twenty, was a pivotal monarch in the history of Armenia. As a member of the illustrious Bagratuni dynasty, he was the son of Smbat VIII the Confessor, a lineage that played a significant role in shaping the Armenian kingdom.
