Candace Parker

Candace Nicole Parker, born on April 19, 1986, is a celebrated American former professional basketball player and actor, widely recognized as one of the greatest players in WNBA history. Nicknamed 'Ace', she was the first overall pick in the 2008 WNBA draft, selected by the Los Angeles Sparks. Over her illustrious career, Parker spent thirteen seasons with the Sparks, followed by two seasons with the Chicago Sky and one season with the Las Vegas Aces, achieving championship success with each team.

Parker's versatility on the court allowed her to excel primarily in the forward and center positions. During her high school career, she earned the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year award in both 2003 and 2004, making history as the only woman to receive this honor twice. As a standout player for the University of Tennessee, she led her team to consecutive national championships in 2007 and 2008, earning the title of Final Four's most outstanding player on both occasions and being named a two-time consensus national player of the year.

In the WNBA, Parker's accolades include two Most Valuable Player Awards in 2008 and 2013, a WNBA All-Star Game MVP Award in 2013, and two Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012. She was also the first player to win both the Rookie of the Year and MVP awards in the same season. Notably, Parker became the second player to dunk in a WNBA game on June 22, 2008, showcasing her remarkable athleticism.

Beyond her playing career, Parker transitioned into a role as an analyst and commentator for TNT Sports in 2018, providing insights on NBA games and the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Following her retirement in the spring of 2024, she was appointed president of Adidas women's basketball, further solidifying her impact on the sport.
