Cleopatra Thea

Cleopatra Thea, born in one hundred sixty-four BC, was a prominent figure in the Hellenistic world, serving as a queen regnant of the Seleucid Empire. Her reign was marked by her strategic marriages and political acumen, as she was the queen consort of three kings of Syria: Alexander Balas, Demetrius II Nicator, and Antiochus VII Sidetes.

From one hundred fifty BC until approximately one hundred twenty-five BC, Cleopatra Thea played a significant role in the political landscape of Syria through her marriages. Following the death of her second husband, Demetrius II Nicator, she ascended to the throne, ruling Syria independently.

Her reign as queen regnant began in one hundred twenty-five BC, during which she co-ruled with her son, Antiochus VIII Grypus, until around one hundred twenty-one or one hundred twenty BC. Cleopatra Thea's legacy is characterized by her influence over the Seleucid Empire and her efforts to maintain stability during a tumultuous period in history.
