Debbie Reynolds

Debbie Reynolds was a multifaceted American actress, singer, and entrepreneur whose illustrious career spanned nearly seven decades. She captivated audiences on stage, television, and in films well into her 80s, showcasing her remarkable talent and enduring appeal. Reynolds first gained recognition for her portrayal of Helen Kane in the 1950 film Three Little Words, earning a Golden Globe nomination for Most Promising Newcomer. However, it was her iconic role as Kathy Selden in the classic musical Singin' in the Rain (1952) that truly launched her into stardom.

Throughout her career, Reynolds starred in a variety of successful films, including The Affairs of Dobie Gillis (1953), Susan Slept Here (1954), and Tammy and the Bachelor (1957), where her rendition of the song 'Tammy' topped the Billboard charts. Her performance in The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1964) earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, further solidifying her status as a leading lady in Hollywood. In addition to her film work, she was a talented voice actress, famously voicing Charlotte A. Cavatica in the beloved animated film Charlotte's Web (1973).

Reynolds was also a prominent figure on television, earning a Golden Globe nomination for her series The Debbie Reynolds Show in 1969. Her stage presence was equally impressive, with a Tony Award nomination for her role in the 1973 Broadway revival of Irene. Later in her career, she gained a new generation of fans through her role as Aggie Cromwell in Disney's Halloweentown series and received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for her guest appearance on Will & Grace.

Beyond her artistic endeavors, Reynolds was a savvy entrepreneur, opening the Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio in North Hollywood and owning a Las Vegas hotel and casino. She was also a passionate humanitarian, serving as president of The Thalians, an organization dedicated to mental health causes. In recognition of her contributions to the entertainment industry and her charitable work, she received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2015 and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2016. Sadly, Reynolds passed away on December 28, 2016, following a hemorrhagic stroke, just one day after the death of her beloved daughter, actress Carrie Fisher.
