Elizabeth of Luxembourg

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Elizabeth of Luxembourg

Elizabeth of Luxembourg, born on October seventh, fourteen oh nine, was a prominent queen consort of Hungary, Germany, and Bohemia. As the only child of Holy Roman Emperor Sigismund, she was destined to share the thrones of her father alongside her husband, Albert of Austria. Following her father's death, Elizabeth and Albert were elected by the Hungarian estates as de facto equal rulers, marking a significant moment in her life.

Despite her royal status, Elizabeth faced challenges in asserting her authority. The Veszprém bishop's refusal to relinquish the right to crown the queen complicated her position, as traditionally, the Esztergom bishop held this privilege. Nevertheless, she was recognized as a co-ruler and actively participated in governance, demonstrating her commitment to her role.

Tragedy struck when Albert passed away in fourteen thirty-nine, leaving Elizabeth a pregnant dowager with two daughters, Anne and Elizabeth. The Bohemian nobility declared an interregnum, and shortly thereafter, King Vladislaus III of Poland was crowned as the new king of Hungary in May fourteen forty, just three months after Elizabeth gave birth to her son, Ladislaus the Posthumous.

Determined to secure her son's inheritance, Elizabeth engaged in a civil war against Vladislaus's supporters. This fierce struggle for her patrimony ultimately culminated in her untimely death at the age of thirty-three, marking the end of a tumultuous chapter in the history of her reign.
