Felipe VI

Felipe VI, born on January 30, 1968, in Madrid, is the current King of Spain, having ascended to the throne on June 19, 2014. He is the third child and only son of Prince Juan Carlos and Princess Sophia, who later became the King and Queen of Spain. His early life unfolded during the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, and he was officially proclaimed Prince of Asturias in 1977, two years after his father's accession to the throne.

Felipe's education began at Santa María de los Rosales School in Madrid, followed by Lakefield College School in Canada. He pursued a law degree at the Autonomous University of Madrid and later earned a Master of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. To prepare for his future military responsibilities, he joined the Spanish Army in 1985, completing training in both the Spanish Navy and Air Force.

Throughout his early adulthood, Felipe represented his father at various national and international events, engaging in charity work and cultural initiatives. In 2004, he married television journalist Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, and together they have two daughters, Leonor and Sofía. His reign has been characterized by significant events, including his response to the 2017 Catalan independence referendum and the COVID-19 pandemic, alongside efforts to modernize the Spanish monarchy.

Felipe VI's leadership has been marked by a commitment to transparency and a focus on contemporary issues facing Spain. According to a 2020 opinion poll, he enjoys moderately high approval ratings, reflecting his efforts to connect with the Spanish people during challenging times.
