Gertrude of Merania

Gertrude of Merania, born on September twenty-fourth, one thousand one hundred eighty-five, was a prominent figure in medieval Europe, serving as the Queen of Hungary. Her marriage to Andrew II in the year twelve hundred five marked the beginning of her influential role in the kingdom.

As the first wife of Andrew II, Gertrude's reign was not only defined by her royal status but also by her active participation in governance. During her husband's absences, she took on the responsibilities of regent, demonstrating her capability and strength in leadership.

Tragically, her life was cut short by assassination, a fate that underscores the perilous nature of political life in her time. Gertrude's legacy, however, remains as a testament to her contributions to Hungary's history.
