Guðni Th. Jóhannesson

Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson, born on June twenty-six, nineteen sixty-eight, is a distinguished Icelandic historian and politician who made history as the sixth president of Iceland, serving from two thousand sixteen to two thousand twenty-four. His academic journey began at the University of Iceland, where he specialized in modern Icelandic history, contributing significantly to the understanding of pivotal events such as the Cod Wars and the financial crisis that gripped Iceland from two thousand eight to two thousand eleven.

Before entering the political arena, Guðni held the esteemed position of president of the Icelandic historical society, Sögufélag, from two thousand eleven to two thousand fifteen. His passion for history also extended to translation, showcasing his versatility and commitment to the preservation and dissemination of Icelandic culture.

In May two thousand sixteen, Guðni embarked on a presidential campaign as an independent candidate. His victory in that year's election marked a significant milestone, as he became the youngest individual to assume the presidency in Iceland's history.
