Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Ids Postma

Ids Postma, born on December twenty-eighth, nineteen seventy-three, is a distinguished former Dutch speed skater celebrated for his remarkable achievements in the sport. He first gained recognition in nineteen ninety-three when he secured second place at the Speedskating World Championships for Juniors. Transitioning to senior competitions, Postma quickly made his mark by becoming the Dutch Allround Champion and finishing as the runner-up at the World Allround Championships, although he narrowly missed qualifying for the Dutch Olympic team.

In nineteen ninety-seven, Postma's career reached new heights as he clinched both the European and World Allround Championships. His crowning achievement came in nineteen ninety-eight when he became World Allround Champion for the second time, setting a world record in the point-sum combination. At the Olympic Games in Nagano, he showcased his exceptional talent by winning the gold medal in the one thousand meters and earning a silver medal in the fifteen hundred meters, finishing just behind Norway's Ådne Søndrål.

Postma also made history in nineteen ninety-eight by becoming the first skater to officially record a time below one minute and fifty seconds in the fifteen hundred meters, a feat accomplished in Berlin. Although his record was short-lived, as it was surpassed by Kevin Overland later that day, it solidified his status as a pioneer in the sport. Additionally, he is a three-time World Champion in the World Single Distance Championships, having won the five thousand meters in nineteen ninety-six and the fifteen hundred meters in nineteen ninety-nine and two thousand.

After announcing his retirement in October two thousand four, Postma settled on a farm in Deersum. He married fellow speed skater Anni Friesinger on August eleventh, two thousand nine, in Salzburg, although they have yet to reside together on the farm due to ongoing renovations. The couple welcomed a daughter in August two thousand eleven. Postma's personal life was marked by tragedy when he lost his partner, Renske Vellinga, in a car accident in nineteen ninety-four.
