Inge the Younger

Inge the Younger, a notable monarch of Sweden, reigned approximately from the year eleven hundred and ten to around eleven hundred and twenty-five. He is believed to be the youngest son of King Halsten, and his rule followed the death of his uncle, Inge the Elder. Historical accounts suggest that he may have shared the throne with his brother, Philip Halstensson, although the reliability of these traditions is questionable.

After the death of Philip in the year eleven hundred and eighteen, Inge the Younger is thought to have become the sole ruler of Sweden. His reign, however, was shrouded in mystery, particularly concerning the circumstances of his death, which remains unknown. According to the Westrogothic law, he met a tragic end, reportedly poisoned by an evil drink in Östergötland, marking a significant moment in Swedish history.

Inge's legacy is intertwined with the House of Stenkil, as his death signified its decline. His marital ties were also notable; he was married to Ulvhild Håkansdotter, the daughter of Norwegian noble Haakon Finnsson. There are unverified tales suggesting that Ulvhild may have played a role in his demise, but these claims lack substantiation. Another tradition hints at his marriage to Ragnhild of Tälje, further complicating the narrative of his personal life.
