Kelley Hurley, born on April fourth, nineteen eighty-eight, is a distinguished American épée fencer known for her remarkable achievements in the sport. A standout athlete at the University of Notre Dame, she earned the title of All-American four times, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication to fencing.
Coached by her father, Bob Hurley, Kelley has shared the competitive stage with her younger sister, Courtney, since she was seventeen. Together, they have represented the United States on World Teams, demonstrating their prowess and commitment to the sport. Kelley made her Olympic debut in two thousand eight, becoming the only women's épée fencer from the United States to qualify for that year’s games.
In two thousand twelve, Kelley secured her place on the Olympic team once again, this time as a replacement athlete. She played a pivotal role in the women's team épée event, contributing to the historic achievement of winning a bronze medal, marking the first time the U.S. Women's Épée Team earned an Olympic medal.
As she approached the Rio 2016 Olympics, Kelley was ranked eighteenth in the world in individual épée, ultimately finishing twenty-fourth in the competition. Her journey continued as she represented the United States at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in twenty twenty-one, where she finished twelfth in the Women's Épée Individual and helped her team secure a fifth-place finish in the Women's Épée Team event.
