Manute Bol

Manute Bol, born on October 16, 1962, was a remarkable Sudanese-American professional basketball player and political activist. Standing at an astonishing height of either seven feet six inches or seven feet seven inches, he is recognized as one of the tallest players in the history of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Bol's basketball journey began at the collegiate level with the Bridgeport Purple Knights, where he showcased his exceptional skills. In 1985, he was selected by the Washington Bullets during the NBA draft, marking the start of a decade-long career that would see him play for four different teams until his retirement in 1995.

As a center, Bol earned a reputation as one of the best shot-blockers in the sport's history. Notably, he is the only player in NBA history to retire with more career blocked shots than points scored. By March 2026, he ranked second in NBA history for blocked shots per game and seventeenth in total blocked shots.

Beyond the basketball court, Bol was deeply committed to humanitarian efforts, advocating for human rights in his native Sudan and providing aid to Sudanese refugees. His legacy extends far beyond his athletic achievements, as he used his platform to bring attention to critical social issues.
