Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Martín Torrijos

Martín Torrijos, born on July eighteenth, nineteen sixty-three, is a prominent Panamanian politician and economist who served as the President of Panama from two thousand four to two thousand nine. He is the son of Omar Torrijos, the influential military ruler of Panama from nineteen sixty-eight to nineteen eighty-one, and was raised in a politically charged environment.

After completing his education in economics and political science in the United States, Torrijos returned to Panama and became actively involved in the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD). His political journey began with a presidential candidacy in the nineteen ninety-nine general election, where he faced off against Mireya Moscoso of the Arnulfista Party but was unsuccessful.

In the two thousand four presidential election, Torrijos emerged victorious as the PRD candidate, defeating Guillermo Endara of the Solidarity Party with a decisive forty-seven percent to thirty-one percent. During his presidency, he implemented significant reforms in social security and pensions, and he championed a monumental expansion of the Panama Canal, which was estimated to cost five billion dollars.

After completing his term, Torrijos was succeeded by Ricardo Martinelli in two thousand nine. He remains an influential figure in Panamanian politics and is a member of the Inter-American Dialogue. In the upcoming two thousand twenty-four general elections, he is set to be the presidential candidate for the Christian democratic People's Party, a coalition that supported him during his presidency.
