Mikko Koivu

Mikko Koivu, born on March twelfth, nineteen eighty-three, is a distinguished Finnish former professional ice hockey player. He was selected sixth overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild, marking the beginning of a remarkable career in the National Hockey League.

After honing his skills for four seasons with TPS in the SM-liiga, Koivu made his NHL debut in two thousand five. Over the course of fifteen seasons with the Wild, he became a cornerstone of the franchise, serving as captain for eleven of those years. His tenure in Minnesota was marked by numerous franchise records, including games played, assists, and points scored, solidifying his legacy in the sport.

In two thousand twenty-one, Koivu announced his retirement from professional hockey following a brief period with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
